Welcome to the Shrieking Harpies of Doom

After reading PinkandChocolateBrown's blog post asking the ether if there is any happy medium for religious zealots (or people in general) when it comes to women - something between "a submissive Girl Friday but not quite ... a shrieking harpy of doom" - I say no. There is nothing in between.

There are only Harpies.

There are only the Shrieking Harpies of Doom, to be more precise. And the EthicsDaily.com can tellthis Southern Baptist idiot that he has only himself to blame for giving said Harpy a platform. (That linked story will tell you about one professor Bruce Ware, who professes that men beat their wives only when their wives aren't submissive enough, like God meant them to be. And when the wimmins get uppity and try to - *gasp* - teach men things. God forbid, right? I mean, mens were born knowing how to do stuff, like load the dishwasher and washing machine properly. Um, right.

Ware goes on to say "He [he's talking about men in general here] has primary responsibility for the work and the labor and the toil that will provide for the family, that will sustain their family". Which is wonderful. I mean, hell, I'd *love* to not have to work once I get married. Just wait until I tell the Future Mr. Harpy that he's going to have to work to support me, future baby harpies, and my yarn habit. (I figure blanket-making is wifely enough work that it shouldn't piss the preacher off too badly.) I wonder if Ware has raised a family on a single income. Given that he's a professor at a seminary, I'm guessing no. No wonder he despises women with jobs - they likely make more than he does. Which is, of course, emasculating and not part of God's plan.

Welcome to the Musings of the Shrieking Harpies. I'm one of your Harpies, Erato, and I'll be one of your guides through Harpydom.

Many thanks to PinkandChocolateBrown for letting the Muses steal her "shrieking harpy of doom" and turn it into blogspace!

Welcome to the Shrieking Harpy's Musings. I promise to offend you eventually with my witty common sense.
